With another golf season well under way across the country, I hope everyone is once again returning to some form of normal following early season challenges in various parts of the country, as the pandemic continued to affect many individuals and businesses.
The Parting Shot
Together,
We Persevere
While there was great frustration in areas impacted the most by government regulated closures, our association continued to work around the clock to ensure golf was in the forefront to open as soon as possible and to position golf as a safe activity for the public, both physically and mentally.
One of the key benefits to the integrated structure of our organization is that when we becomemembersoftheNGCOA Canada, we are joining a united national organization with integrated chapters that provides us with national, provincial and regional benefits and ensures that members’ voices are much stronger with this unified approach.
Our governance model is such that as we prepare for our Summer Board of Directors Meeting where the consolidated budget and strategic plan are approved, the chapter portion of these guiding documents was developed at the Chapter level and pre-approved by the Chapter Advisory Board giving the NGCOA Canada Board the confidence that all regions are carefully represented. It reflects our grassroots approach that an integrated structure provides. Once the final approval stage is complete, our staff are empowered to execute on the Board approved Strategic Plan.
Another advantage of our governance model is that the President of each Chapter Advisory BoardisamemberoftheNGCOA Canada Board, ensuring that the entire country is represented at the Board table. In addition, the fact that all types of courses from single 9 hole facilities to multi- course operators are represented on the Board makes our association truly diverse and representative of all owners. Having been involved with other industry organizations, I can attest to the advantages this model provides and I know that other associations are looking at the opportunities possible with this type of structure.
As our industry is constantly evolving, I encourage all members to be active in association affairs at the Chapter level to ensure that your ideas and suggestions are shared with other owners both regionally and nationally. The strength of our association is working together to sustain the successes we have achieved and
to continue to develop new and innovativeprogramsforthefuture. One of the more exciting and fastest growing events on the golf calendar is our feature article in this edition of Golf Business Canada. Women’s Golf Day, initiated by Elisa Gaudet in 2016, is a global event that recognizes current female golfers and leaders in golf in addition to encouraging women and girls to experience golf in a safe, welcoming and fun environment. The article features interviews with several prominent female Canadian leaders in the golf industry. The growth of golf in Canada will be impacted favourably with continued and increasing participation by women, and it is fitting to shine a light on it
in this issue.
With my best wishes for continued success for the rest of the year.
Sincerely,
Harry Brotchie, Owner
