As the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada turns 25, Golf Business Canada (GBC) sat down with CEO Jeff Calderwood, the man who has been at the helm since the association’s inception.

GBC: The NGCOA Canada is very much a leader in the golf industry. Is there one moment over the past 25 years that defined your path to success?
Jeff Calderwood:
In terms of strategic moves, the defining moment would be the day I had the vision of structuring the NGCOA Canada as one association with integrated national and regional departments.
Traditional association models would have each province, and various smaller regions, operating totally separate associations. I found that to be a very inefficient system and went looking for a “better mouse trap.” The NGCOA Canada’s ability to execute a strategic plan seam- lessly from coast to coast, and avoiding every region duplicating excessive expenses, has yielded a much higher ROI for our member golf courses.
