your prompt, but it also has
downstream impacts. For example,
setting custom instructions around
your brand voice, and then having
ChatGPT edit all your copy will
ensure all your communication is
clean and concise, regardless of who
wrote it. Remember that custom
instructions are unique to each user-
account, meaning each team member
will need to configure their custom
instructions in a similar manner.
Live Internet Access
Another advantage of GPT-4 is
real-time internet browsing. The 3.5
model primarily available on the
free tier does not have access to the
internet, so information in the model
can be outdated. GPT-4 can access
up-to-date information.
Here is one example of how you
could use that feature. Let’s say you
want to revamp the Outings page of
your club’s website. Instead of
manually researching and taking
notes, simply provide ChatGPT the
URLs of 3-5 competitor pages. It can
review them, suggest an optimal
layout, and write suggested text for
the page.
File Uploads
File uploads are one of the least
heralded features of GPT-4. Have
you ever needed to reformat a
spreadsheet? Convert a .PDF to a
.CSV? ChatGPT can easily handle
these tasks.
In addition, the file upload feature
is great for analysis. For example, you
could upload your social media post
history and ask it to scan captions
for keywords that drive engagement.
You could upload your member-
survey results and ask for a
summary. You could upload all your
email responses and train GPT to
respond to emails in your typical
manner.
The opportunity here is endless,
because file uploads allow you to
provide your own information to
ChatGPT. Otherwise, it is limited to
the information it can find on the
internet.
PROMPT ENGINEERING
The quality of your AI outputs
depends on the quality of your
input. The more information you
can give the LLM, the better your
response will be. Thoughtfully
crafting your prompt (or the
questions you ask) will lead to
exponentially improved responses.
Below is a list of criteria to consider
when building your prompts, some
of which can be covered by GPT-4
custom instructions.
• Task - Clearly identify what you
are asking ChatGPT to achieve.
• Context - Provide as much
background information on the
task as possible.
• Exemplar - Provide an example of
the type of style of response you
are looking for.
• Persona - Specify the tone, role
and voice you want the model to
respond in.
• Format - Define how you would
like the response structured.
Adopting these elements in your
prompts will dramatically improve
your responses. You can also ask
your LLM to be a collaborator to
help you build the prompt. You can
provide details and ask ChatGPT to
generate a refined prompt. You can
also ask your LLM follow up
questions or prompt it to ask you
follow up questions, this process is
called meta-prompting.
While we are on the topic of
prompts, it is important to mention
advanced models and modes. Each
GPT-4 subscription includes access
to tools like code interpreter and live
browsing. Depending on your
version, you may also have access to
advanced research tools that
simulate a research assistant. This is
a highly valuable tool if you are
completing a market or competitive
analysis, or are trying to understand
and leverage national trends. A
highly detailed prompt can produce
amazing results in Deep Research
mode.
BUILDING AI WORKFLOWS
So far, our examples and use-cases
for AI have remained within the
LLM platform itself, but by far the
most impactful application of this
technology is within automated
workflows. GPT-4 comes with
Application Programming Interface
(API), meaning you can develop
applications that interact with the
platform programmatically. Fortu-
nately, you do not need to be a
software engineer to build these
applications because of no-code
platforms like Zapier.Golf Business Canada 29
