I wanted to find a unique way to
recognize my management team’s
dedication. With creativity and
generous support of club members,
the idea took shape.
For maximum impact, I kept the
event a secret. Planning a surprise
on a tight budget required ingenuity
and collaboration. The key? Enlisting
the help of members who shared my
enthusiasm for honouring the team.
The outing began at 2 p.m. with a
rented 15-passenger van and a
designated driver to ensure
everyone’s safety. The first stop was
a local mini-golf course. Greeted
with handmade cocktails, the group
enjoyed 18 holes of mini-golf and
beverages, setting the tone for a
relaxed and fun-filled evening.
The second stop was the home of
the golf club’s past president, perched
high above the Fraser Canyon in
Chilliwack, British Columbia. With
charcuterie boards and wine, the
team soaked in the breathtaking
views and each other’s company.
Dinner was hosted at another
member’s home, featuring an
outdoor dining experience under the
stars. The menu featured a beef tender-
loin and local vegetables, served with
style by member-volunteers.
The evening concluded with
dessert at the home of two cherished
members. Gathered around a fire pit,
the team shared stories and lots of
laughter.
The outing’s impact extended
beyond the team. News quickly
spread among club members, many of
whom expressed interest in assisting
with future events. The experience
strengthened the bond among team
members and deepened the members’
connection with their golf club.
What did it cost? Surprisingly
little. Expenses included the van
rental, driver, and a few drinks. The
return? Immeasurable. By creating an
evening filled with gratitude and
connection, we fostered a culture
where appreciation thrives and staff
deliver exceptional member
experiences.
