Now that we’ve ensured the safety of the client, it is time to make sure that you are
taking care of your biggest asset – yourself!
Lashing can place great strain on the body. As you continue to practice, your body will
continue to strengthen and adjust to sitting for long periods of time. If you are
ensuring that you are practicing diligence with your self-care then you will be able to
avoid a lot of the common problems that eyelash technicians face.
Proper ventilation
Ensuring proper ventilation in your environment is so important for your health. For
most technicians, having access to a room with windows and the use of a fan are
often enough. To protect your lungs, it is also advisable to invest in a VOG carbon filter
mask.
If the fumes from the glue are an issue, there are professional ventilation machines
available as well.
Proper seating and posture
Especially in the beginning when we are first learning, we will be focused on other
things besides your posture. However, if your back or neck get sore from incorrect
posture that can limit your quality of service, length of time you are able to lash for, or
the longevity of your lash career. Awareness of correct posture is important. Investing
in a great stool is also important. Saddle stools are great for the back, and you can
purchase adjustable stools to help ensure that you never have to hunch or reach to
access a client's lashes. Ideally, the client’s head will be even with your chest and
elbows, and you will have full access to each side of her face and all of her lashes
without having to lean or hunch over. Don’t be afraid to adjust the client’s head to
help you to reach tricky inner or outer corners as opposed to you reaching over her.
