For nearly a century, Bermuda has been well established as a
golfer’s paradise—our golf courses have been the winter home
to thousands of visitors particularly from the United States,
Canada, Great Britain and Europe. Today, with the growth of
the cruise industry in the summer the Bermuda golf season is
truly year round.
To complement our twelve month golf season, Bermuda has
seven outstanding golf courses: Port Royal, Turtle Hill, Riddell’s
Bay, Belmont Hills, Ocean View, Mid Ocean Club and Tucker’s
Point, together with a fine driving range facility, the Bermuda
Golf Academy. Each course oers varying degrees of diculty
but all of our golf courses can claim that they oer the most
spectacular views available anywhere to enjoy. Moreover,
Bermuda remains in the forefront within the golfing world and
has played host to the prestigious professional golf season
finale seen by millions around the world—the PGA Grand Slam
of Golf at Port Royal Golf Course, featuring the winners of
the four major championships: the Masters, US Open, British
Open and the PGA Championship of the golf year. Ironically,
Bermuda was a pioneer in the world of televised golf when the
Mid Ocean Club hosted the prestigious World Championship
Golf Series in 1959, the infamous match between Sam Snead
and Mason Rudolph.
In recent years, the majority of Bermuda’s golf courses have
invested millions of dollars upgrading. The outstanding golf
course architect Roger Rulewich not only upgraded Tucker’s
Point Club from the world famous Castle Harbour, he also
remodelled Port Royal, the Robert Trent Jones Sr. masterpiece
that he presided over in 1970. In addition, the Mid Ocean Club
invested significantly in its golf course in recent years, as did
Belmont Hills whose 5,500 yard course Par 70 underwent a
transformation to create target golf and undulating greens
that make shot selection, course management and putting a
premium. Bermuda’s oldest golf course is Riddell’s Bay, a classic
seaside layout with a Scottish flavour. Turtle Hill is considered
the finest Par 3 course anywhere and the government owned
Ocean View Golf Course is an historic 9-hole golf course
considered a national treasure.
Bermuda’s championship golf courses Port Royal Golf Course,
Mid Ocean Club and Tucker’s Point in their present and previ-
ous forms, are world class golf facilities who have played host to
