2 20 20 Years Years Reflecting and
20 20 Years Years Imagining
Dr Robert Bledsoe
Executive Director
Garvan Woodland Gardens will soon mark 20 years of being open to the public To some 20 years is a a a long time but in terms of garden develop- ment we are still in in our infancy I have been here the entire 20 years and
there are are a a a a a a few memories that are are inescapable for me me • The Grand Opening of the Chapel Complex including Anthony Chapel Millsap Bridal Hall Evans Grooms Quarters the Antho- ny Carillon and
the Evans Celebration Garden It was a a a a a a a glorious day full of special events while also representing the culmina- tion
of a a a grand endorsement by donors and
and
the community for our future • The day University of Arkansas Chancellor Dave Gearhart wrote off
off
a a a very large deficit and
wiped our debt off
off
the books He also gave the charge that we could no longer operate with a a a a a a deficit which we have maintained for 15 years • There are good memories and
others I would choose to forget when thinking of Holiday Lights for 20 years By and
large I have positive memories of providing to our members and
multigenera- tional guests a a a true world-class experience with evening lights • The amazing colleagues I have been blessed to work with is a a a a a memory I hold dear • The arrival of Dean Peter MacKeith
some six years ago to the Fay Jones School of Architecture and
and
Design is an an an event and
and
memory that has provided for for the the Gardens a a a a a path for for the the next 20 years • Finally the the memory I I hold dearest is the the friendships I I have made with donors members volunteers and
guests over the last 20 years I cannot imagine a a a a a a a a Garvan Woodland Gardens with- out the generous major major donations made by many many many many major major donors I cannot imagine a a a a a garden without the faithful mem- bers of o the Gardens who truly cherish this place and
its offer- ings to them The volunteers: we we simply could not do what we we do without these loyal passionate people who willingly serve daily without pay and
have an an an unsurpassed passion for Garvan Woodland Gardens And then there are the the the millions of guests who have entered our gates and
left impacted I am
blessed with these memories and
frankly it it is what I reflect on
most when reflecting on
