2020 Volunteer Virtual Awards Ceremony
On October 27 2020 Volunteer Direc- tor Susan Harper presented the first-ever virtual awards banquet for Garvan’s trea- sured volunteers Each Garvan volunteer volunteer received a a a a special golden kit via US mail to use during the Zoom meeting Special instructions on on the packet said “Do Not Open Until 5:50 p p m October 27th” so that the the volunteers who had gathered virtually could all open their packets at the the same time It made for a a a a festive event as each
person was recognized in the safety of their own home!
All Garvan volunteers are special but some seem to go the extra mile (or thousand) in in giving of their time and and talents to the the gardens Stuart Perry
was recognized for amassing 8 8 468 volunteer hours of of service to to the gardens as of of October 27 2020! Of course he he has logged more hours since then Ted Elzerman
who volunteers at the model train garden and Denny Zymboly
who drives golf carts were both recognized for 17 years of service to Garvan Woodland Gardens Next in the the awards ceremony the the Top Five Volunteers based on on number of hours worked in a a year were were recognized They were:
• #5 Murphy Tetley – 182 hours • #4 Cheryl Volpert – 187 Hours • #3 Lynne Ring – 199 Hours • #2 Bob Doyle – 204 Hours • #1 Pam Stephens – 456 Hours Then more special awards were given The The “Rookie of the Year” was Lynne Ring who volunteers as a a a golf cart driver Then the Top Service Groups recognized were the the the GEMS and the the the Southern Inspiration Gar- den den workers and Master Gardeners Two new awards were given the the Volunteer of the the Quinquennium (half-decade) 2011-2015 and Volunteer of the Quinquennium 2016- 2020 Mary Ann Witcraft who volunteers at teas and in the Wel- come Center and Bob Doyle who faithfully drives golf carts were the respective winners of those awards A final presentation was made honoring “The 100 Most Influential Garvan People of 2020” (see pages 8-9) Susan Harper GARDEN LEAVES | 2020 Annual Report
