15. Guidelines for Candidates for BPW State Elective Offices
State Endorsement Procedures
Not later than January 5, the Nominations Chair shall send uniform blanks to the
president of each Club in CFBPW with instructions for endorsements of candidates
for State elective office or State appointments.
A. State Elective Office
1. A Club sponsoring one of its members as a candidate for State elective office
shall mail to the Nominations Chair postmarked not later than March 1:
(a) the nominating blank evidencing the endorsement of the Club.
(b) a summary, not exceeding two hundred (200) words of the candidate's
qualifications, including name, club affiliation, occupation, and office for
which endorsed; and
(c) a form which includes the candidate's signed consent to serve, a pledge to
uphold the State Public Policy Statement, and a statement of willingness
to furnish information necessary for bonding.
2. No two candidates for State elective office shall be nominated from the same
club.
3. A club endorsing one of its members for State elective office shall also secure
the endorsement of a majority of the other clubs in the District in which the
candidate is a member. Clubs endorsing the candidate shall send a written
endorsement directly to the Nominations Chair postmarked not later than
April 1.
4. A CFBPW Member-at-Large or Student Member wishing to run for state
elective office shall mail to the Nominating Chair postmarked not later than
March 1:
(a) the candidate’s signed consent to serve form, a pledge to uphold the Public
Policy Statement, and a statement of willingness to furnish information
necessary for bonding.
(b) a summary, not exceeding two hundred (200) words of the candidate’s
qualifications, including name, occupation and office seeking; and
(c) secure the endorsement of a majority of the Clubs in the District in which
the candidate resides to the Nominating Chair postmarked no later than
April 1.
5. The Nominations Chair will contact each candidate for State elective office
fourteen (14) days prior to the April 1 deadline to inform them of their endorsement
status.
6. In the event the Nominations Chair shall become a candidate for office, the
qualifying papers shall be sent to the State President by the Nominations Chair
prior to the Winter Board meeting or the Annual Conference.
7. A club endorsing one of its members for nomination from the floor at the
Annual State Conference shall comply with all requirements as set forth in
paragraph A above, except postmarked requirements. Qualifying papers for
candidates nominated from the floor of the conference shall be in the hand of
the Nominations Chair ten (10) days preceding the opening of the Annual
Conference.
