AWARDEES 13
Gwen Marie Austin (Cont. …)
Gwen regularly speaks/lectures on social justice topics
(keynote speaker at UC Berkeley 2016 Poverty & Homeless-
ness Symposium); she mentors interns and volunteers, and
the many Rising Stars awardees in BOSS as well as first-year
college students with the Berkeley Community Fund. A tire-
less advocate and organizer on key social justice initiatives,
Gwen helps keep BOSS staff informed of policy develop-
ments and she serves as a Commissioner for Alameda
County District 5 Commission on the Status of Women,
which works to maximize parity for women and girls by
supporting the elimination of gender-discriminatory ser-
vices and practices across sectors. Gwen exudes posi-
tive spirit and deep compassion and is loved and re-
spected by everyone she meets.
For her exceptional focus, energy, and effectiveness
through tireless work, I nominate Gwen Austin as the
2022 Berkeley Business and Professional Women’s
Woman of the Year.■
Sincerely,
Diane Rames
2013 recipient of the BBPW Woman of the Year Award.
