GUIDELINES FOR ARTISAN EDITORIAL SUBMISSIONS
The article may combine both make up and hair styling as a team.
If it is a team article, the total wording should be no more than 2,100 words.
If the article only addresses make up (including skin preparation and prosthetics) or hair (including wigs and hair
additions), the word limit is 700 words per craft. There are approximately 700 words in a page, allowing up to
three pages.
The Artisan is a TV and Film Industry magazine written by the Make Up Artist and Hair Stylist Guild members
(IATSE Local 706) , inspiring other make up industry magazines for decades. Distribution is exclusive to our
members and selected partners quarterly, with additional awards editions.
The reader looks to the Artisan for new techniques, product knowledge, cosmetic trends, industry news and mean-
ingful stories from set.
Article Format:
• If it is a combined make up and hair article, the maximum is 2,100 words.
• Single article about one craft – 1,400 words maximum
• Articles should be submitted as a Word Document to the following email:

• Articles are to be single-spaced, and 12 Times New Roman font.
• DO NOT attach as a PDF. Please use Word Document for editing purposes.
• If your PR department is to write the article for you, please write in the first-person, as this is not a press release.
Should you choose to write the article yourself we will assist with editing if necessary/as requested.
Photos:
• JPG attachments to the email above. Send your photos as single attachments. Imbedded photos within the text
of an email are not print quality. If photos are sent by cell phone, please send them in the largest format possible.
All photos should be no less than 300 dpi. We are looking for approved production stills, and behind the scenes
photos of you and your crew, which include product shots.
• If you have more than 7-10 photos to submit, you can also use Dropbox.
• Consideration for a magazine cover requires no less than 300 dpi.
• VERY IMPORTANT. Production approval is required for the photos you submit.
DEADLINES are definite. Submissions take time to proof, edit and select photos. Those editorial selections are
then sent to our publisher for layout and design. From there it goes to the printer and is mailed out to the mem-
bership. Please be respectful of the time element. If you are having problems, please just contact Adam Brandy at
