How to be influential in 2022
In January we held a webinar in partnership with the UK
Parliament Education Service. This was led by Jasmine along
with 12 members of BPWUK in attendance, and even a
visiting member from BPW Brazil, studying in Richmond for
a few months.
This was aimed at renewing the ways in which we can
effectively lobby in this changing technological world.
The ways in which we have been lobbying have helped to
grow our conversation in the past, as we remembered when
Lynn Everson gave evidence to a Parliamentary Select
Committee. It was explained how many Members of
Parliament and those in the other “House“ use social media
to stay in touch with constituents and NGO’s.
We asked about the E Petitions many of us may have signed
in the past and how to begin one, or to join another group
which are aligned with our ideas and mandates. Jasmine
explained about how to find those with common interests
and gave us the up-to-date contact information details which
will guide us to the correct department or individual who can
help us with our lobbying.
With our AGM and Conferences coming up in the spring, via
zoom, it is good to think about those things that matter to us.
To focus on those issues that sadly seem to just keep returning
to our news screens in what seems like a generational issue
which was one of the reasons that many of us joined BPW.
Liz Jowett is our VP for Advocacy, and her working group are
discussing the ways in which we can have a seat at any table
to discuss the next step. And as a very wise woman once said,
“If we do not have a seat at the table, we must bring our own”.
Get out that chair and let’s get on with ending these issues.
We don't want to hear those women in 20- or 30-years’ time
are still addressing the issues of violence and misogyny that we
are facing today.
