Viruses….
Dead or Alive?
Speaker: Dr Judith Cook, Bsc (Birmingham), Phd (Sheffield).
Viruses show no characteristics of being alive. This talk will look at the basic structure of viruses which allow them to
reproduce themselves by invasion of other living cells.

After completing postdoctoral research in plant biochemistry at Sheffield University, Judith began her teaching career in
Blandford teaching Biology, Chemistry and Maths. She continued her career at comprehensive schools in Bridport and
Beaminster as second in the Biology Department. There followed 10 years of lecturing for the Open University, teach-
ing the Foundation of Science course until she finally retired and moved to Bristol. Also, since 1982 she has marked
exam papers for A level and GCSE.

March in USA (where BPW was founded!), we
come full circle with Part II, bringing us from
1995 to the present time.
Our Speaker, Sylvia Perry, past BPW Interna-
tional President (1996-1999), has compiled
two books on BPW history!
