The January 20 Winter Conference was the responsibility of the East Valley Club.
The focus of the conference was on “The Importance of Voting.” We were pleased to welcome
CFBPW Finance Chair Denise Luckhurst as the State Representative for this conference.
Margo Reeg, President of Whittier League of Women Voters as well as Co-Chair of the
Los Angeles County League, was our speaker. Margo spoke on the importance of voting,
not only in the November elections but also in the Primary Elections and provided members
information on how to be well-informed voters. Margo also reviewed Proposition 1 on the
th
March 5 ballot.
During our meeting we took a few minutes to share our memories of Marie Clifton who
passed away in December. She was the district conference chair and a long time member and
will be missed.
With the CFBPW Winter Board Meeting and Public Policy Conference coming up in
February, it was time to review CFBPW Public Policy Statement and take a vote on changes
suggested by Sierra Mar members. We also picked members to represent Sierra Mar at
both meetings - Maryann Wesson as delegate, Karen Roberson as President’s Alternate and
Linda Wilson as the district’s representative at the Public Policy Conference. A total of four Sier-
ra Mar members and one dual-member attended the meetings.
Mavis Hansen volunteered to take Marie Clifton’s place as Nominations Chair and
has done a great job and has a full slate of officers to present at Sierra Mar’s Annual Confer-
ence on April 20th, for the 2024-2025 BPW year.
It has been an honor and a pleasure serving as Sierra Mar District President and working
with a committed board of directors. And I am looking forward to handing the gavel to
Karen Roberson, who will be a wonderful president for 2024-2025.
Sally McMahon, President
