Reclaim the Night Nottingham (RTTN)

                                            What do we want?”

                                                “Safe streets.”

                                        “When do we want them?”

                                                      “Now!”

It is now forty-five years after the cry went up in Leeds, as a protest to women being told
to stay at home, while the Police hunted down the Yorkshire Ripper.
“Tell men to stay at home too!”

Now, the reporting of domestic abuse shows women are not safe there either. What the
authorities call isolated incidents, when added together over the period of a year by the
Office for National Statistics, now tell a different story.

Over four hundred women and supportive men from many organisations across Notting-
ham and Derbyshire marched to keep the issue in the public eye.

Nadia Whittome, the Labour MP for Nottingham East, is a regular supporter and updates
Parliament on what is happening on our streets.

This year we were joined by those campaigning for women in Iran.
As the march weaved its way through the Lace Market Creative Quarter, cafe and restau-
rant diners, sat outside, clapped their support, while buses and cars waited patiently at
crossing points. Their continued support was heart-warming.●
