Church Army Marylebone Project
The Marylebone Day Centre is now called “The Sanctuary” which offers basic services to
rough sleepers as well as supporting women back to work through their Women into Work
Initiative.
The project is running several programmes in partnership with Westminster Adult Education
Service designed to develop service user’s confidence, understanding of their value,
strengths and potential
The Cookalong Project
They say: In essence it is a community project now across Whitstable (Seasalter and
Swalecliffe) with two purposes
• To teach basic cooking skills to a group, enabling them to go on using these skills to
cook cheap, healthy and nutritious meals for their families
To provide all ingredients, recipe sheets and video tutorials for 3 meals a week for each
family during school holidays (this was specifically in response to need identified in our
community when children were not getting school meals) when food poverty may be a con-
cern.
We distribute through a small, regular team whenever possible to coincide with Fare share
distribution (free food) so that families can collect additional food items when available.
We maintain contact with participants during the cooking weeks and answer queries and
questions. We have had really positive feedback and some lovely pictures from our cooks of
the things they have made. We encourage making and sharing meals together as a family.
The cost to us supporting around 28 families (c100 people) is approximately £1000 per
week. Each family can stay on the programme for 12 months.
