VALLEY SUNSET DISTRICT

Valley Sunset District will hold its Winter
Conference on Saturday, February 3, at the Burbank
First United Methodist Church. Chaired by the dis-
trict’s Members-at-Large, the meeting will focus on
         legislation and public policy.

District Public Policy Chair Elaine Aftergut will lead the review and discussion of
the current CFBPW Public Policy Statement and focus issues. Proposed amendments
will be presented at the Annual Public Policy Conference.

The invited guest speaker is Susan Schwartz of the Los Angeles Bar Association.
Ms. Schwartz’s presentation will focus on How to Evaluate Judicial Candidates.

Burbank member Gloria Salas was honored by State Senator Anthony Portanti-
no as a California Woman of Empowerment. This was a new category of state honors,
created specifically for Gloria. Valley Sunset District congratulates her and thanks her
for her many hours of service to the community and especially her efforts to empower
         all women.

Burbank BPW adopted a family for the holiday. They provided this single moth-
er and her three children with four boxes of food, gift cards and presents for everyone.
The club’s January meeting speaker was the president of the Burbank Tournament of
Roses who told about her 50-year career as a Rose Parade volunteer.

Hollywood BPW held its first in-person meeting of the year at the historic Holly-
wood Women’s Club. Past State President Lynn Brandstater was honored with the
club’s annual Susan B. Anthony award for her service to BPW. Members and guests
enjoyed a lovely catered lunch. President Marjory Hopper welcomed members from
Valley Sunset and Sierra Mar Districts, as well as a number of guests.

Conejo Valley BPW celebrated the holidays with an elegant Glitter Dinner at the
beautiful Westlake Village Boccaccio’s Restaurant. The evening’s events also included
welcoming a new member, Pearl Spaho. Pearl is a student at Moorpark College. The
club’s January meeting program was a review of the CFBPW Public Policy Statement.

On December 2 Valley Sunset District held their annual holiday party at the
Smoke House Restaurant in Burbank. Hollywood BPW hosted the luncheon. In lieu of
a gift exchange, members were asked to contribute to the California BPW Education
Fund. More than $600 was added to the loan fund through the generosity of VSD
         members.
