BPW Members from generation to generation
India Chapter

The late Shakuntala Malhoutra (Great Grand Mother)
was born in India, a forerunner of her time.

She attended Maria Montessori’s personal camp in India
for the benefit of her young children. Obtained her Master’s
Degree in Sociology following the death of her husband.
She worked with the State as Director of Social Welfare and
was the first woman to be appointed as Chief Probation
Officer in Delhi.

Her continued aim to uplift women in all areas, made
her join the new BPW club of Delhi in 1962, persuaded
her daughter Manjul to join at the same time, who later
started the Mumbai BPW chapter in 1964.

Shakuntala attended many International BPW Confer-
ences, moved to USA in 1980 and joined the Berkeley Chap-
ter, supporting the activities of BPW at all levels Nationally
and Internationally.
Shakuntala would be so proud!
