The armband was white with red letters sewn in the middle of a navy blue circle. The Red Book was about the size of a hymnbook at church and “Top Secret” was printed in large gold letters on the cover. A thick black wire secured the front and back covers with help from
a red waxy seal.
“You'll note that the book is sealed and it is not to be opened unless there is a bona fide civil defense disaster. With all due respect, ma'am, we can't risk the government's plans getting into the wrong hands, if you understand my meaning.” Mother nodded respectfully in agreement.
“This paper here on top tells you how to conduct air raid drills and evacuation exercises. Let me review the vital points,” he pulled on the end of his pen and, like magic, it turned into a pointer stick.
