He was about my height, medium build and had the most striking black hair that fell stick straight to his shoulders.
He wasn't what I'd call handsome, but his face had character and a hint of mystery. Large warm gray eyes, a straight strong nose and a quirky smile, perhaps to offset less than perfect teeth. He wore glasses, and changed them as often as most people change clothes. In contrast, his clothes always looked the same. A black shirt and black pants, usually silk or linen, and a very expensive looking black
belt with a simple silver buckle and belt tip reminiscent
of the southwest.
At 52, David had dispensed with parenting years ago. His children were grown, married and had families of their own. He was a grandfather. Not an old one, but too old, he
