He had worked hard to get his life together after two failed marriages, years of drug and alcohol abuse and more recently, problems with his aging parents. He lost everything in the first divorce. The oriental rugs, the art, the antiques and the vast accumulation of material things that grew out of a successful business.
His life was just beginning to make some sense for the first time. It had come down to living simply in a modest apartment with the barest of furnishings, his books and his music. He threw things away regularly and kept track of what he discarded.
