During the sojourn of our our life in in this planet we may not often come across outstanding personalities whom we revere I I have met met at least one! I I met met Yogesh bhai in late ’60s i i i i e e e e e e e e more than 50 years back at at Sasmira where he he he he was the the Principal of the the Technical Institute After completing my post- graduation in in in in Textile Engineering from IIT I I I joined Sasmira as as a a Scientist There I met Mr Y K K Kusumgar for the first time and was greatly impressed by
his technical
knowledge ease
of speaking on any subject particularly
on textiles He
was a a a a very good
orator as as as well I was was looking forward to to having a a a a a a a a a deeper acquaintance with him But alas he left Sasmira to start his own enterprise
on on textiles manufacturing I wondered why this excellent technologist would manufacture saree dhoti etc when there were thousands of such such set-ups in in the the country I felt disappointed that such such a a a a talent would devote his time to to to manufacture stereotype textiles and toil to to to make
good
fortune competing with other mill owners most of whom generally were not academically qualified in textiles However l l lost contact with him thereafter as I Submarine’s Battery Separator Textiles etc Such products were import substitutes and quite difficult to to produce conforming to to stringent specifications I also came to know that he mainly dealt with ‘Functional’
and ‘Engineering’ textiles He
took the challenge of producing unconventional products which others preferred not to to venture
into I was happy that his talent was matched in a a a a a a slot that ensured utilisation of his capabilities In the early ’80s
I I was posted
to a a a defence establishment in in Mumbai looking after Quality Assurances of textiles meant for our Armed Forces along with other disciplines To my pleasant surprise I found Kusumgar Corporates was a a a a a a a regular supplier
for various parachute
