O v er all y ear r e ec tion
My overall view of this year is positive, however I have to mention the impact on covid had on my experience. I think
that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the experience because it took away the studio experience,
being in the studio and with other people that are all designing allows you to develop your own design and have a
conversation about design. It also hinders the interaction between students and lecturers.
I learned a lot this year in things particularly around the over arching design process and learning how to communicate
that through documenting the design process. I found I enjoyed making the design book and getting to tell the story
of the process, while learning more about the Adobe Illustrator and becoming more pro cient. I believe that this year
has given me more con dence in my ability as a designer and I am looking forward to 4th year to continue learning
more and developing my skills further.
I think that I had a breakthrough with Solidworks this year, in second year I found it very di cult and struggle a lot
and I even continued that struggling into this year but towards the end of the year I feel like I found my footing in
the programme and fell like I have a grasp of how to use it as a tool to aid in the design process. I think I have a
bit of a block with sketching, and I always nd my self trying to avoid it because I set my standards too high and
then feel like my sketches are not good enough but that just traps me in a loop of not developing my sketching
ability. I plan to try and develop my skills further over the summer so I can come back in 4th year and really dive
head rst into the process.
