RELECTION
This year has been particularly a difficult year with Covid-19 putting limitations on everyone especially students. The course itself is a very practical course,
being restricted to access the Workshop and Campus has impacted me negatively. Finding motivation to work from home, was extremely difficult but as
designer, we are taught to adapt to new situations and new environments. Which comes with new challenges. Finding motivation to work was extremely
difficult because what was happening globally and personally, rom 2020-2021 was a very emotionally year for, which impacted me negatively study wise,
giving me reasons to give up. This academic year alone I had a million reasons to drop the pen and the books but knowing that I was not going through it
alone and having support both academical and from family was very helpful.
Before the first project (Design Case Study) I struggled with research but as the project carried on, I found myself being able to underst
and how to conduct proper research. My research skills were improved daily as I sawed the internet for information and facts that I then
used to conduct and support my ideas. In the future I will continue to avail of this skill in future projects. In the second project (Co-Design)
I enjoyed it very much, because I was working as part of a team, with a person who had no knowledge of design. At first, I was a little
reluctant. I only saw the negative side to things, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were able to learn a lot from each other. Although the
client did not know how to sketch, I still insisted that they contribute as much to this project as possible. I not only used the client’s ideas
but also their own drawing to come up with my finally model. This intern gave the client more confidence in me. The client was able to
see that I valued them as an equal in the team. During this project, my patience was challenged. The client sometimes did not
understand, and I had to explain to them numerous of times. My communication skills improved greatly as a result of this. I learned that
when working with future clients its crucial that I consider that the client is not as profound as I am in design and I should only use
terminology of which they can understand. What I enjoyed most about this project was seeing the client’s reaction to the final model.
The client was fully satisfised with the outcome of the project.
In project 3 I used similar approaches from project 1 and project 2 and a collective of all the skills I have learned over the last three years.
This project embodied all aspects of design from industrial design, research visualisation and graphics, marketing for design, advanced
3D Computer modelling, along with design culture and society which I did my best in uniting them as show in work and
overall design book.
Conclusion
To conclude, 3rd year has been an interesting journey which started with one step.
