Every product hasafull life cycle, thatlife cycle is in uenced by several
varied factorsatdesigner, manufacturing, European regulation and
marketing levels. How much choice ofdirection do the companies have to
be sustainable and how much choice does the consumer getin thelife
cycle of their purchased products. In my opinion, tacklingclimatechange
and decreasing un -sustainable practices is a major initiative in product
design. After all it is the designers and manufacturers ofevery product that
decide the purpose of the product andthe suitable materials that should be
used. Withclimat echange being a major initiative in today’s society,
consumers are leaning their values towards sustainablepractices and are
stepping away from unsustainable products. For reasons such as making
themselvesfeel like theyare making the correct choices in their purchases
by not adding tothe problem of climate change. Also, some may like to
post online or communicate the fact they buy only sustainable products and
thatthey’re purchasing is green orientated creatingan emotional impact to
themselves and their followers, friends and family. I believe that it is in a
business interest to focus on making their products and selling points
based around sustainable practice and hitting sustainable goals and this will
initiate an immediate emotional response in a positive manner from the
consumer by the clear displa yof sustainable eorts of the company. I
believe thatmaking correct sustainablechoices as a designer is important
but onlyin a way thatis benecial to the environment andnot solelyfor
nancial benet,Otherwise this can create a method of falsely
greenwashing products for the companies benet, which in turn will create
