DESIGN BRIEF:
You are required to design a high-end personal sound system in the style of your adopted design icon. Your manufacturer wishes to introduce a personal sound system inspired by the design work,
materials and processes associated with your design icon. First and foremost, the sound system should communicate the style and ethos of your design icon through form generation, material
selection, textures and nishes. Secondly, your sound system design should consider the corporate identity, existing in-house technologies and manufacturing capabilities of your manufacturer.
Innovative materials and technologies may be considered for the design and construction of the sound system but only if their introduction or application can be justi ed by the work or philosophy
of your design icon. Design concepts for the sound system may re ect signi cant aspects of your design icon and manufacturer in terms of human endeavour, material and process technology and
social or cultural in uences of particular signi cance. The sound system should include a headset and portable speaker but may include additional elements or items to extend or enhance the users’ Product Design & Innovation Year 4 2020/2021
experience. You are required to propose alternative combinations, product architectures and formats as part of your concept design presentation.
Design concepts o ering protection and/or safeguards from excessive ‘leisure noise’ should also be re ected in your proposals.
