About Me
I am a year 3 Product Designer at the South East Technological University, Ireland. I have a
passion formusic and the entertainment sector and I am thinking about bringing my
design skills into that industry and hopfully I can work for a music company designing
musical equipment and instruments.
My educational background is primarlydesigned focused as I studied DCG, Physics
and Engineering in secondary school.
The music industry is the name given to all groups involved in the production,
performance, recording, selling, promotion and management of music (Moulton, 2022).
When looking from the outside it is difficult to see how design is involved in this industry
until consideration is given to the design and development of every item/product used
by these groups to complete their jobs. Design in the music industry ranges from the
creation of the musical instruments that the musicians play and the software used to
record their work, to the adverts, posters and
promotions used to make more sales and overall gain a greater income of revenue to
the business.
Like all industries music changes in style and design with current culture and is
sometimes the largest influence of emerging cultures and social changes. These
changes affect the design decisions designers make within the industry,
especially when focusing on the branding or image of a product or company. Likewise,
design decisions made by designers when creating new products for the music
industries can be the origin of new cultural trends and movements.
This influence of design decisions has on the impact of cultural change and can be
seen with the development of the world’s first electric guitar.
