Overview of Service Project
“Healthy Habits”
On April 12, 14 and 16, 2021, the Magnificent Seven
implemented "Healthy Habits" at Girls, Inc. of Huntsville
th
nd
with 2 - 8 grade students. Utilizing the service delivery
model and SMART goals, the “Healthy Habits”
community service project was designed as an integrated
program with Health and Human Services as the lead facet
and aspects of Services to Youth and The Arts. Valuable
lessons were interactively presented on diet, exercise, dental
hygiene, and how to manage negative thoughts – all to
promote the importance of their daily choices relative
physical, mental, and emotional health. Good daily choices
will become habits while still in elementary and middle
school, which in turn will have a great impact on their health
and well-being, and last a lifetime. To reinforce the concepts
shared, each participant received a “Healthy Habits” box to
store tokens for each topic. In addition, questions were posed
before and after each session to chart what the girls learned.
Art posters were another means for the girls to show what
they learned from the four sessions. Key partnerships that
enabled the effectiveness and success of the project were
Alabama Cooperative Extension, Alliance Counseling and
Consulting LLC, Premier Dental Spa and Stanley
Construction Company.
