From the Board Chair
Dear Friends,
Welcome back! We hope you had an enjoyable summer and,
now as we head into fall, are ready for some magical music that is
inspiring, joyful and energizing.
We are very excited about the upcoming season. This season and
our next coincide with the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower
voyage and founding of Plymouth Colony. The Phil will be playing
a prominent role in our community’s commemoration of these
events that so profoundly shaped the character and destiny of our country. In March, the orchestra
will perform a program Plymouth 400: Adoration of Place, which will explore different narratives
around the Mayflower journey and establishment of Plymouth Colony through a rich visual, vocal
and orchestral ensemble. The Phil is deeply committed to contributing to the cultural richness of
our town and we are very proud to participate with the whole community in the 2020 celebration.
The theme for this season – our 104th! –is “The Music is the Magic”, and magical it will be. This
season features a wondrous range of musical experiences, from a towering organ symphony by
Saint Saëns and Mozart’s otherworldly 41st “Jupiter” Symphony, to folk-inspired songs of Copland
and music by the most influential women of rock and stage – Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Dolly
Parton, Tina Turner and Cher.
Thank you for your continuing and enthusiastic support for the Phil. Here’s to a memorable and
magical year of great music.
Cheers,
Paul Jean
