The Cost of Hosting
This year, the PPA National Tour will be visiting two popular venues, Kingsport, TN
and Martinez, GA. The course owners and their staffs are accustomed to hosting
national and local putting events, and each will make sure the course looks
beautiful and in top playing condition. Course owners that host a national event
are proud of their involvement, but it comes at a price. Course owners take pride
in displaying their facility to the players visiting from various regions around the
United States. Even though the selected venues are typically the courses that are
continuously maintained, course owners do invest time, energy and money to
enhance the aesthetics. It could be additional plants or flowers. It could be fresh
paint and/or repairing rails. And, at times,
over-time pay for extra personnel during
the event hours are scheduled are
employed to accommodate the additional
folks attending the course. The PPA/APA
players appreciate the extra effort that
goes into making the course perfect for
the event. Players are careful to maintain
the integrity of the course and have even
learned to minimize the special markings
that always seem to magically appear
right in line with the most popularly used
shot on a hole.
It is noteworthy that the extra expense
that course owners may experience is
commonly worth the opportunity to host
a major event. The public attention is great, and the players’ expressive
appreciation is always nice to hear. Also, course owners are pleased with seeing
the best players in the world compete on their courses.
Thank you, players and course owners/workers, for making each event a pleasure
to attend.
