        Such thoughts had never occurred to me, but I’m sure my mother and father knew a thing or two about these conditions.  My friend told
        me, “Yes, you would have earned some school clothes money, but the price you would have paid would not have been a pleasnt one.  You

        were blessed and should be mighty grateful that you didn’t have to experience these things” which I called “migrant camp explosions.”

        Over the years of my life, I soon realized how hard my mother had worked to expose me to things outside of Sanford.  Yet, my parents never
        wanted me to forget my roots or the friends, neighbors, church members, and school mates that we so loved.
