We both knew it was a marriage based on godly principles. Carl was very serious about marriage because he feared the wrath of God
if he were not a good husband. Carl was the total package for me. He knew the meaning of working together and being a good provider.
He had enjoyed a beautiful marriage for over 30 years with his first wife, Delores Sparrow, until her demise. He loved the Lord, his
children, grandchildren, great-grands, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. He loved his biological parents, William Howard and
Elizabeth Davie, who had 19 children. Carl and his brother Clifford were adopted by his Uncle Gus and Aunt Emma Whatley, who
he loved tremendously. His aunt and uncle also reared foster children. (A second book is forthcoming that will focus on the Davie-
Whatley families.)
Carl greatly enjoyed traveling. Of course, being in the airline business, he had gone around the world prior to our marriage. Because
of Carl’s and his children’s employment with the airlines, I was given the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally. Carl
and I also enjoyed several cruises, and all were fantastic experiences. We traveled as much as we could until illness consumed his body.
We laughed a lot, which I declare is very vital to a good marriage. Our disagreements were few because...our affections were Sincere
and Super Strong!
Another reason for my adoration of Carl was that he loved Tajiri as much as I did. The students, parents, and all the staff loved him,
as well. He certainly passed my father’s test. Everyone in my family, our church, and the Sanford community admired him, too. A
Great Man! I thank God that my third husband was The Absolute Best!
Courtship Posture
When Carl and I started to fully date, my posture was NO SEX and NO SPENDING THE NIGHT at my home.
