The difference you made is nothing short of legendary. Telling you that you’re “appreciated” does not do your gifts
justice. You’re the best! You set the course for the rest of us. You made a difference in so many young and senior lives. God
bless you, my Sistah’, for always being there to cheer and to guide.
Love you,
Sandra W. Petty, A Former Tajiri Arts Instructor

Mrs. Whatley,
This book was a delight! It kept my interest throughout as the author told her story with joy and enthusiasm. There were
challenging times, but Patricia Merritt Whatley overcame and prospered. Her time as a special education teacher was
touching as she gave parents and students reasons for pride and accomplishment. That same love she had for children
with special needs was extended to include the children in her community. She became quite the “mover and shaker” in
Sanford to provide the opportunities for children to receive the kind of education in the arts that would allow them to
shine, and how they have shone! Tajiri Arts children have gone on to local, regional, national, and even international
success, thanks to a little lady with a big dream and an even bigger heart.
