Some Reasons For Seeking Out A Christian Counselor

Many seek out a Christian counselor for spiritual reasons. For example, they may feel their walk
is not what it once was, and God seems further away than they’d like. A Christian counselor can
help diagnose the cause of the problem and assist them to get back to where God would like
               them.

However, a Christian counselor can help in other ways as well, similar to the ways a secular
counselor might. These ways may include:

                   • Marriage Issues: Christian counselors often counsel couples, solving issues they may
experience, be it fighting, miscommunication, or a straying from God.
                   • Losing Someone: Even when your faith is strong, the death of a loved one can be hard to
deal with. A counselor can help you heal from that death and allow you to continue with
                       your life.
                   • Mental Health Issues: A counselor can teach you techniques to turn your thinking around
by refocusing on the Word of God.
                   • Goal Setting and Attainment: You may have entered eternity when you accepted Jesus
Christ as your Lord and Savior, but your time in this life is limited. Accomplishing God’s
will for you sometimes require assistance.
                   • Substance Abuse: A Christian counselor can help you deal with any substance abuse you
may be experiencing. Your body is a temple, and you should keep it clean for yourself
and God. However, it can be hard to treat yourself, and the counselor is here to help you
                       get clean and stay clean.
                   • Anger Management: A Christian counselor can help you manage your anger.
Sometimes, life can make you angry, and the resulting wrath is self-damaging. The
counselor can assist you to find the cause of your anger and take steps to help you
                       manage it.
It is important to remember that the Christian counselor should always be rooted in the Word of
God and use it to provide counsel. The focus should always be on God first and how adherence
to His Word and will can assist the counselee.
