Options: Once you both have an understanding of the situation, the coaching conversation turns to
what the employee can do to reach desired performance.
Here are some questions designed to help the employee explore and/or generate solutions:
1. What should be your first step in achieving a more admirable outcome?
2. What do you think you need to do to get a better result?
3. What has worked for you already, and how could you do more of that?
4. What could you do differently?
Will, or Way Forward: This is the last step in the GROW model. In this step, the coach checks for
commitment and helps the employee establish a plan of action for next steps. Here are some questions
to help achieve this:
1. What obstacles are getting in the way of your success?
2. What resources can help you achieve your goals?
3. What is one small step you could take right now?
4. What support do you need to get that done?
5. What do you need from me/others to help you achieve favorable results?

Setting aside the time to effectively coach and guide your employees suggests to them they are viewed
as valuable to the company. If your employee feels valued, it will most likely reflect positively in his/her
work. Keep in mind that as you engage in your coaching sessions, you are having a direct impact on the
performance output of your employee, so it’s important to make every second count!
