REMEMBERRicardo Garcia
Do you remember when young love felt so real?
Only to the point where she dumped you.
And you would hide your emotions with a mask,
And always say the breakup was “mutual”.
Or remember when you were forced to follow the schedule of your parents? And treated as if you were twelve when in fact you were thirteen.
And all those arguments where you tried to argue your point,
But, “listen to your mom!” your dad would scream.
Or remember all those times when you’d slip and get a bad grade?
And get yelled at by the whole family, And they thought you didn’t care about the grades,
But you were trying to hide the card from your parents all along.
And remember when you’d like different things than your dad,
And he looked at you as if you weren’t his,
And you were extremely passionate about your decisions,
But he didn’t really approve.
And remember when something big happened to you,
And your mom had to go on and brag to whole world.
And you’d look at her with a disappointed face,
Because you thought she could keep it within that invisible space.
Remember when the hugs and kisses felt so forced,
And when she’d stand outside the car and wave to you,
And maybe those little lunch notes were a bit embarrassing,
And don’t forget in the car where she’d sing.
And remember when dad’s kisses weren’t cool anymore,
And sometimes mom made meals you didn’t like.
So you ended up making a sandwich, But she ended up forcing you to eat the dinner.
And remember those barks your parents exchanged,
And you knelt beside your bed, and prayed,
And begged God to let everything be okay,But then the fear began to take place.
