I REMEMBER
My stereo clicks on With the thought of you. The sound is only faint, Barely even audible.
But every grin plastered on your face, Makes my heart passionately flutter like a hummingbird’s wings. Click.
Every look you give with
gracious eyes,
Has me blushing the deep red of a blooming rose.
Click.
Every light chuckle from
your mouth, Quickens my pulse to the pace of a white hare prancing away. Click, click, click, click, click.
Everything about you, Fills me with a profound joy I can’t even begin to describe. Click.
What is this melody in my head? This loud, beautiful sound. Every note brings me nothing but delight.
I happily sing along to the tune.
But, of course, it doesn’t last. Because It’s back.
My alluring harmony is replaced with
A jarring discordance.
Erin Pascual
The stereo now thunderously booms: Why would he ever consider someone like
you?
My eyes brim with salty tears, blurring my vision. Click.
You’re the most bothersome
person alive.
My nails pierce crescent moons into my clammy palms.
Click.
I feel bad for anyone who has
to look at you.
My heart throbs in my chest as it’s ferociously ripped to shreds. Click, click, click, click, click. Nobody could ever love you.
I solemnly nod in agreement. Click.
The dial is turned One last time.
Click. Silence.
