things within our power, we make the world a better place, we acknowledge the sanctity of all life, and we make the sacrifice, even when we feel down and frustrated. There is always a greater purpose that extends beyond the narrow scope of our daily lives. That definition of courage is a leap of faith—the understanding that God is orchestrating the Grand Scheme, while all of us do our part.
Wisdom to know the difference. This is, perhaps, the most important part of the prayer because we must tap into our higher senses and call forth our powers of discernment. The question becomes: “What can we do?” and what events go beyond our limited human abilities to change?” The answer, in our opinion, is as follows: If whatever we want to change is within the realm of human possibility and the knowable universe—what God has placed before us to do — we have the power and respon- sibility to ourselves and others to alter our behavior and carry out that change for our benefit and for the greater good (e.g., following virus protocols). If, however, we want to change something that is beyond the scope of ordinary human abilities (for example, the average person cannot invent the cure for COVID-19. We must leave that to infec- tious disease specialists and researchers), we must engage in surrender. Acknowledging that difference indicates that we have the capacity to control our environment and the wisdom to act, when appropriate, and release our cares to God when the situation calls for relinquishing control.
By achieving such a balance, we can become whole again.
