bond between family members. The school environment is an extension of that experience, with the added benefit of educators’ enhanced understanding of early childhood development. Unless the parents are educators, they can- not be expected to become experts in child assessment, so- cialization, and other needs that must be addressed in the early stages of a child’s growth.
At the same time, when home-schooling, parents must be prepared to deal with technical issues associated with distance learning, such as lack of access to the online classroom, broken links, computer glitches, possible WIFI issues, etc. Such distractions disrupt and undermine the learning process and must be corrected before the les- sons resume. This can sometimes lead to wasted hours on the phone, making inquiries, technical errors, and conse- quently, missed learning opportunities.
For Some Children, School Is A Sanctuary
For those children who do not have a consistent, loving home environment, school is their sanctuary, where they interact with mentors and role models. Educators, coach- es, psychologists, and counselors shape the foundation of children’s futures and have an everlasting impact on their lives and careers. Without that interpersonal change, chil- dren without a stable home environment will suffer an ir- reparable loss.
Children in lower socioeconomic households also rely on schools as the source of their meals. Nutrition is an es- sential factor in a child’s overall well-being, including men- tal health. Without proper physical nourishment, children cannot process their world and meaningfully contribute to society.
Also, lower-income families may not have access to computers or other devices to accommodate the transition
