It is important to assess why you are writing, and who your target audience will be.
Private Figures and Household Names
If you are a private figure, writing a book is, in and of itself, a triumph. Once you have given birth to and manifested an idea in words, the next step is publication. The sense of exhilaration when reaching this point - and actually seeing your work in print - cannot be overstated and should not be dismissed. Art for art’s sake has enormous merit, in that it strives for nothing other than its own end: to provide joy to those who take an interest and for the sake of gaining a huge sense of accomplishment. For the unknown, first-time author or private figure, self- publication is usually the best method of achieving the slated goal of holding a printed copy of your book in hand.
