truly matters is that you possess the innate desire to express an idea, a personal story or belief which you, within your own paradigm, have uniquely conjured and cherish as your own.
Occasionally, when you beckon the creative muse or when you hear the “whisper,” your mind is a tabula rasa – a blank slate without a scintilla of inspiration etched upon it. If such is the case, wait! It is best not to proceed until the muse has either indicated her intention in whole or in part, or summons you to seek assistance. In the latter instance, the ghost enters the picture. In fact, the ghostwriter is the muse who, with just the germination of an idea, can create an entire garden.
Muses, sprites, ghosts ... are you in the land of the metaphysical? Absolutely not. Creativity is temporal, intricately bound up in human DNA. So fear not! Fundamentally intuitive signs of the need for self-expression are as true and constantasyourbreath. Onceinspirationstrikes, thenextstepistoformulatea plan. Will you put your thoughts on paper in a sketchy outline, or will you keep your ideas within the Gray Matter Domain? Either way – whether you decide to write something down or just cogitate, thinking about and feeling your truth (imaginative or derived from personal experience) - you are on your way to giving life to your innermost expressions.
Assess Your Motivation
My authors know the drill: each time someone calls upon me, I ask, “What is your motivation for writing your story?” This overtly simplistic question may appear superfluous, at first; but it is key to the process. You should know the answer immediately. These are the responses that I receive most often:
“I have a unique story that I want to narrate.”
“I want to uplift, inspire, and inform individuals in my situation or similar circumstances.”
“I have an idea that has been in my mind for a long while, but I don’t know how to put it down and I don’t have the time.”
