Abstract:
Anemia is dietary iron deficiency is still a major health problem in Indonesia,
especially in pregnant women. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) are known
to have a high content of iron and vitamin C, so they have the potential to
be used as a functional food ingredient to help increase hemoglobin (Hb)
levels. This study aims to develop moringa leaf-based cookies
“MoRiOleKies” and examine their effect on weight and Hb levels of anemia
pregnant women. The research method used was an experiment with a pre-
post test design. The sample consisted of 30 anemic pregnant women who
were given two pieces of moringa leaf cookies twice a day for two weeks.
Data were collected through questionnaires and measurements of body
weight and Hb levels before and after the intervention. The results showed
an increase in average body weight from 63 kg to 65 kg, and Hb levels from
10.5 g/dl to 12.2 g/dl. None of the respondents experienced weight loss or
Hb levels. In conclusion, moringa leaf cookies have the potential to be used
as a functional food to help overcome anemia in pregnant women, while
improving their nutritional status in a sustainable manner.
