a) that you meet one of the eligibility criteria in paragraph b) above;
b) that the purpose of the time off is to accompany the pregnant woman to an
antenatal appointment; and
c) that the appointment has been made on the advice of a registered medical
practitioner, registered midwife or registered nurse.
You may take time off to accompany a pregnant woman to up to two antenatal
appointments in relation to each pregnancy.
You must not take more than six and a half hours off for each appointment,
including travel and waiting time.
Time off to attend these appointments is unpaid.
If you wish to take time off to attend further antenatal appointments you
should request annual leave.
Adoption Leave Policy
Provisions similar to the Maternity and Paternity Leave provisions are in place
in relation to the adoption of a child. Please speak to your Line Manager if you
require further information.
Shared Parental Leave Policy
Policy Statement
This policy outlines employees’ entitlement to shared parental leave and pay
and sets out the arrangements for taking it.
No-one will be discriminated against or subjected to a detriment for taking
leave in accordance with this policy.
Definitions
The definitions in this paragraph apply in this policy.
a) Expected Week of Childbirth: the week, beginning on a Sunday, in which their
doctor or midwife expects your spouse, civil partner or Partner to give birth.
b) Parent: in relation to the birth of a child one of two people who will share
the main responsibility for the child’s upbringing (and who may be either
the mother, the father or the mother’s partner if not the father). In relation
to the adoption of a child, your Partner.
c) Partner: means your spouse, civil partner or someone living with you in an
enduring family relationship, but not your sibling, child, parent, grandparent,
grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew (in the case of adoption, the
