Modified Contactless Road Testing
DDS is tranistioning to new a method of conducting road tests to comply with social distancing
guidance duing the COVID-19 Health Emergency. Since early May, a Modified Contactless Road
Test Pilot began at the Augusta, Conyers and Lawrenceville CSCs. As with everything DDS plans, the
safety of our Team Members and customers was the top priority. Now, the parent/ responsible adult
rides in the vehicle with the driver as the Driver Examiner gives instructions from the outside of the
vehicle. It consists of the exact same test using the same score sheet as with previously administered
road tests. The differences are that the test is given on the DDS property and the Examiner gives
instruction and monitors the driver from outside of the vehicle.
This driver examiner from Locust Grove is staying DDS Safe by giving instructions from the outside of the car.
Road Test Mondays & Saturdays
Starting in June, thirty Regional CSCs will begin testing customers who used the Emergency Waiver
Process to exempt the roadtest and upgrade their license. If you remember, this was a temporary
solution for first time drivers during these unprecedented times and was rescinded by Governor
Kemp on May 12, 2020.
A total of thirty (30) locations with fifty (50) carousels will be utilized. Nine (9) locations have a single
carousel and twenty-one (21) locations have dual carousels. This plan allows for approximately 2,400
road tests to occur each Monday statewide and approximately 1,200 to occur on each Saturday. By
offering the waiver customers the opportunity to test on Mondays and Saturdays, DDS will be able
to meet the deadline of September 30th for retesting each customer. This emergency plan could
not have been possible without the determined and dedicated team members we have within our
Agency.
