                                                                Plectranthus


    Plectranthus is a large genus containing
    about 350 species. Plants in the Plectranthus
    genus are closely related to mint as they are
    part of the same Lamiaceae family.

    Plectranthus species are usually low-maintenance,
    and fast-growing, which makes them attractive
    options for even the most inexperienced gardener.
    Some of the most well-known Plectranthus species
    include the P. scutellarioides, commonly known as
    coleus, P. ‘Mona Lavender,’ which has become a
    popular houseplant, P. fruticsous (top left, opposite
    page), which enjoys full sun, P. madagascariensis
    (below), a very attractive variegated species suited
    to shady areas and P. neochilus, (bottom, opposite
    page), most suited to warm dry gardens and ideal
    for rockeries in full sun or light shade.
    Generally, plants in the Plectranthus species are easy
    to grow. They do best in partial shade although
    some species are fine in full sun. They are shallow-
    rooted plants that appreciate adequate water but
