All these species are critically endangered,

and desperately in need of conservation.
    Adenium boehmianum (top right)
Hoodia currorii subsp. lugardii (below right)
    Ansellia africana (opposite page) and
    Eulophia guineensis (below left)
If you see these plants, do not take them
    from their natural habitat.
    Botanical monuments around Botswana
    include areas protecting Marulas, Baobabs,
the Ana tree (Faidherbia albida), Mopane, stands
of Aloe marlothii, Lithops, and areas rich in
biodiversity like Sokwe forest reserve. There
are no formally protected areas in the south
eastern region of Botswana according to a
BSAP Stocktake Report, 2004. It has only a few
conservation areas. The Otse Vulture Reserve,
and a few private and community protected
areas such as Mokolodi Nature Reserve.
This ecoregion is one of the most important
areas in Botswana for plant diversity, again
according to the report. So promoting the
conservation and protection of our indigenous
species is vitally important if we are to prevent
further losses. Imagine if willow trees went
    extinct before they discovered Aspirin!
