Thank you again for agreeing to do this interview. You have submitted work here before with us at HOL, and we are familiar with your work, but some of our readers/viewers aren’t. So tell us a little bit about yourself, your background?
I was born in Port-au-
Prince, Haiti, on Dec
15th, 1980, the middle
child of 4 brothers. My
family moved to Miami
Florida in the mid-
’80s. And I have been
living in Florida my
entire life. I graduated
high school in 1999
and attended Florida
International University
and transferred to Florida
State University, where I completed my undergrad.
How did you develop an interest in photography, and how long have you been a photographer now?
My interest in photography began during my junior year in college, when I decided to take a beginner’s photography class. I enjoyed the art of photography. This was back in 2001 before digital photography became what it is today. I enjoyed the moments in the darkroom processing film and developing prints. Its been about 19 years now since I’ve been doing photography.
Do you do anything else besides photography? (Any other career path?)
For a long time, I worked as a barber cutting
hair. Currently, I do a
lot of videography, and
I started a production company with my cousin’s husband. We work as creatives in producing stories and visual content such as web series and short films. Currently, we have a show on Youtube created and directed
by my business partner Diamos Demeritt called “Too Each His Own.” We have many other projects that will be released
soon and currently working on new content.
What is your focus in photography? Fashion? Landscape?
When I started photography, I would point
my camera at any and everything, from street pigeons, cars, people, landscapes, etc etc. I then discovered that I enjoyed portraiture, and creating incredible portraits, whether it’s fashion, events & parties, wedding engagements, or even artistic portraiture. I guess what I love experiencing is
the reaction of people being pleased with their images.
How do you, as a photographer, make sure that the thing, person, or landscape you want to shoot looks the way you want it to?
Sometimes I may come up with an idea for a portrait that may require a specific type of lighting
