Hair Circus Freaks is exactly what you would imagine it to be, a combination of Alice in Wonderland meets the circus. The owner Alexandra, met with us on a zoom call to introduce us to her salon, and we were in complete awe! In a time where colorful hair was going mainstream and becoming more and more popular in the
late 2010s, 2016 to be exact, Hair Circus Freaks embraced the trends and their popularity exploded. They have a total of seven talented staff members which include hair colorists, barbers, and hair extensionists, all stylishly portrayed online and on their social media platforms. Behind every great business stand a strong willing body, and Alexandra is
the representation of that with her salon. So without further ado, Hair Circus Freaks with Alexandra, everybody.
So I gotta say I loved the theme of your shop! what made you come up with a circus theme? Thank you, Ryan!! I Dreamed of a timeless beauty salon and safe space where everyone can feel Glamorous... yet unusual! The circus is a place where artists and entertainers come together as a family to put on a show and that’s what we do every day at the hair circus. We are not your average salon and so our theme and culture needed to speak our language and style behind the chair. I fell in love with the circus as a kid when my parents took me
and loved the acrobatics, the costumes, and the theatre of it all! The history behind sideshow and those who didn’t “ fit” into society’s vision of beauty standards then came together as a powerhouse and had people paying to see them for all of their obscurities. Circus is colorful, edgy, alternative, luxurious, and sexy all at once. American horror story “freakshow” was my favorite season for the costumes and hair, and I was inspired by the Venice Beach Freakshow before they closed down. The circus seems to always have my heart. It’s Possible I ran away with The Circus in a past life ... ? For now we have created a space where you come as you are and we embrace the strange and peculiar.
Tell me a little bit about how you got started? When I was young I was obsessed with drawing and recreating cartoons, I could literally copy the image exactly onto paper and would get lost in it for hours... especially “doodling” in class. Art class was my favorite in high school so I knew I wanted to do something creative as an adult. In elementary and middle school I was teased for my curly and “crazy” hair so I had to learn how to style it. I always played with different ways to tame it and loved trying new products. Being a social butterfly as well, this all made sense to go to hair school because I would get to create hair art and talk to people all
