A Word from Terry
Luke 8:14-15
The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.
But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by keeping on, produce a crop.
The Christian is like the seed in a potato patch.
During these past months many of us have tried our hands at different hobbies and pastimes, and I am no exception.
When I lived with my parents, the homestead had loads going for it. An ample backyard space was top of the list, and dad used this and turned it to his advantage by digging, planting and supplying the home with bounteous amounts of veg, fruits and even flowers.
We also had a vast lawned area where the football world cup, the cricket test matches and even games of hide and seek were all played. So it’s this love of gardening that I have taken on.
I have recently set up raised beds, my aim to produce some wonderful home grown fayre. One choice is the humble potato, or spud.
And now to spiritualize:
The potato needs to be set deep into the soil. God’s love for us needs to be planted deep in our hearts. The raised beds are our bodies, which we have cared for and nurtured. The seed is planted in the raised beds, the love of God is planted in our lives, and no matter how small , we see small green shoots begin to appear, maybe the odd flower. In time we show outward awareness of Christ’s loving-kindness and generosity.
Under the surface our love and care and thoughtfulness multiplies and grows, and we become a stronger and more caring God-fearing Christian person.
So the next time you visit a garden, remember God’s love shown to us by others. God bless
