One of God’s pictures for this is of a banqueting table, where people may sit down and enjoy all the goodness of God.
Do you remember the days of getting out the wallpapering table to make extra room at Christmas or family get-togethers? Aren’t they wonderful times when you need a bigger table? Unless you get stuck next to the relative everyone avoids!
But of course, in God’s kingdom, we are all welcome. Whatever size our table is now, we work and pray and build and connect with others, showing them love and grace, inviting and welcoming them, so that we will need a bigger table. We budge up a bit, squish together, share the food out that bit more, all so that we can include each new person that joins us.
Maybe that should be our motto over the coming months: we need a bigger table! Will you join in, sharing the love of God with whoever?
